The National Orientation Agency, (NOA) has written to schools and worship centres in Ekiti State, warning them against being careless with anti-terror security measures against the terrorists
group, Boko Haram.
The agency, in a letter sent to schools, churches, mosques among and other crowded places, hinted that the dreaded Boko Harram insurgent group was plotting to attack the South West Zone of the country.
The statement by the NOA’s State Director, Mr. Dayo Famosaya said the alarm had become necessary in view of security reports at its disposal, and the need to put up pro-active measures capable of nipping such planned attacks in the bud.
Famosaya said in the statement, titled, “Public information on security consciousness and awareness,”adding that the Boko Harram fighters may have infiltrated into the South Western part of the country, going by the content of security agents reports to NOA in the state.
“They have threatened to deploy cluster bombs in the Zone, these cluster bombs are usually housed in discarded metallic materials such as can of beverages and soft drinks.
“The bombs may be concealed in bags, cellophane paper, and for it to have more grievous effect, they have planned to deploy these bombs in crowded places such as schools, markets, stadia, churches and mosques” he said.
The statement warned members of the public to watch out for people wearing flowing apparel, as it is the type of cloth they wear so as to hide their weapons.
“As a result of these security tips, we wish to call our religious leaders, principals of schools, officials of sports, associations and other relevant bodies to be security conscious” the statement added.
The authorities of religious institutions, including public and private schools in Ekiti State have since confirmed receipt of the NOA letter and had begun putting measures in place to foil any possible attack.
At the popular St-Joseph Nursery and Primary school, located along Ajilosun area of Ado-Ekiti, inscriptions have already been pasted on the walls of the school, calling on parents not to exceed the time-frame given as closing periods for pupils as a result of the alert.
