Kano: No more religious crisis with me as emir –Sanusi

EMIR of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has pledged that his reign will mark an end to inter-faith crisis and conflict in Kano State, declaring that he is committed to ensuring justice to Christians and Muslims in the state at all
times.

The monarch spoke, on Tuesday, while hosting the leadership of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano State chapter, who paid him a courtesy call in his palace.

Alhaji Sanusi explained that as a Muslim leader, he would ensure the safety of every life and property under his domain, irrespective of the faith and belief of the person involved, noting that he is mandated to give justice and fairness to whosoever deserves it.

He recalled his intervention in the church crisis in Rogo town, adding that, he not only ordered for its reconstruction, but had to personally bring out his money when he was not satisfied with the pace of the reconstruction exercise.

The Emir of Kano, who was grateful over the visit, sought for greater understanding, peace and harmony among the adherents of the two religions in the state, in Nigeria and in the globe, saying his doors were open to the Christian community in the state.

He also appealed to the Muslim community in the state to embrace their Christian brothers while assuring that the people of the state would never discriminate against anybody on the basis of faith and religion.

Speaking earlier, leader of the Christian’s delegation and Chairman of the association, Bishop Ransom Bello, applauded the monarch for his fatherly disposition to matters that affect the Christian family in the state, describing him as a man of peace.

He was particularly grateful for the sense of urgency with which the monarch intervened in the burning of the church in Rogo town, saying the monarch, not only brought the crisis under control and charged the local government council to rebuild the affected church, but he also got the suspects arrested.

Congratulating the monarch for ascending the throne of the Emir of Kano, he consoled him over the recent bomb blasts in the state as well as the recent hajj stampede, which killed a number of pilgrims in Mecca.
