Enugu—Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered a probe into the death of 11 Ebonyi youths in a auto accident at Ezzangbo on their way to the Court of Appeal, in the nearby Enugu State.
Umahi asked the Secretary to the State
Government, SSG, Prof. Bernard Odoh, to probe the incident and report back to him.
He spoke during a thanksgiving service at Government House, Chapel in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Umahi said, “On Monday, I saw a situation that made me to almost shed tears. I saw that youths were crying over the loss of 10 of our brothers and a sister and I felt so sad. Some of these are things we could avoid because this is a new dispensation, where there is love, unity, togetherness and orderliness in the land of Ebonyi.
“I want to assure the youth that I had directed the SSG to probe the death of those 11 young people and whoever that pushed them into that will have to pay for that.”
He attributed the success of his government so far, to fervent prayers and the cordial relationship between the three tiers of government in the state.
Umahi however, assured that despite the poor economic situation in the country, his administration would fully implement the 2016 budget estimate of the state.
The governor maintained that henceforth, the government would embark on aggressive revenue generation drive to augment the dwindling federal allocation to the state.
